Boone, North Carolina is growing in population and Appalachian State University, the area’s largest
university, is building an academic building adjacent to Watauga Medical Center, the area’s largest
hospital. In response, the Town of Boone is proposing an area surrounding the hospital as a new zoning
designation called the Wellness District. While the town begins its planning, first-year students from
Clemson University’s Architecture + Health studio were able to analysis what this Wellness District
could look like.
